Alvaro Phan

A native of Lima, Peru, Alvaro Phan moved to Brentwood, NY at the age of six. His love for soccer blossomed early—his passion for the game was evident before he turned two, inspired by his first role model, his father and co-coach, Ernesto Phan.

Alvaro began his soccer journey with the Brentwood Soccer Club and later joined Northport Soccer Club, where he played under the leadership of Coach Jim Spampinato and his father. Together, they built a formidable team, competing against top-tier clubs across Long Island and the Eastern region.

His high school career took off when he played varsity as a ninth grader for Brentwood High School. Alvaro led League 1 in goals as a junior, and in his senior year, he was recognized as one of the top 10 players to watch. He earned numerous accolades, including 2-time All League, All Conference, All County, All State, and All East honors.

In college, Alvaro excelled at Suffolk Community College, where he helped his team achieve a #2 national ranking and was named NJCAA and NSCAA All American. He continued his success at Division 1 Fordham University and later played semi-pro soccer.

Alvaro’s coaching career has been just as impressive. Starting at Fordham Prep, he has since coached with LIJ Select teams served as the Associate Head Coach at Chaminade High School, where he has helped lead the team to multiple league and 8 state titles alongside Coach Mike Gallagher.

Alvaro’s dedication to developing players both on and off the field is central to his coaching philosophy, fostering growth, discipline, and excellence in every player.
